Confused! That is the most probable feeling that will come on your first try of the slim Canon PowerShot S90. In fact, that is the uniqueness of Canon PowerShot S90. The resolution is only 10 megapixels, but you’d be shocked with the wide angle lens with fast f2. The focal length (optical zoom) can be arranged from the focus ring, with a choice of 28, 35, 50, 85, and 105 mm. Especially, the functions of this ring may be set again, for example, to set exposure compensation, set the ISO, white balance, shutter speed, focus, aperture, or zoom. This is outside the existing arrangements in the wheels behind the camera control.
Honestly, the Canon PowerShot S90s style will make some new need time to be used to it. A lot of new things!! Exposure can be arranged. RAW format is rare in compact cameras. The position of the shutter button is no longer at the edge of the right side, but moved more centered. Flash can not be turned on manually. It will directly ‘jumped out” on the left side when the camera detects low-light conditions.
However, once you get used to it, you’ll soon enjoy the Canon PowerShot S90. Quick response, sharp pictures, even in low-light conditions. You can take pictures in low light conditions without hassle to set anything. On low light mode, the camera automatically sets the ISO to 12,800. There is a given options to set the ISO from 80-3200.
On the auto mode, this Canon’s pocket Camera can detect scene, movement, and face. There are also 8 other modes, complete with a summary of each function present a second mode in the LCD. So, you don’t need to read the manual thoroughly.
Unfortunately, the NB-6L battery with 1000mAh capacity could only last for 150-192 shots. But don’t worry, these batteries can be recharged in about 2 hours. The charger is available.
Conclusion
If you crave for a serious full-featured digital camera, but lightweight portable, the Canon PowerShot S90 is really a good choice. With the HDMI output, support RAW, and good shot quality. However, if you have no problem with the price and dimensions, the Canon G11 is a better choice.
